§ 13-14. Key box system (Knox boxes).

  • When a structure is equipped with a fire alarm system, sprinkler or stand pipe system or, deemed necessary by the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ), an approved key box shall be required. The tumbler shall match the Fire Department key. Installation height of the key box shall be a maximum of six feet to the top of the box or as approved and the location of the box shall be approved by the Fire Prevention Division. Keys shall be provided to gain access to fire alarm panels, electrical rooms, sprinkler rooms and any other areas to which the Department may require access. Applications for the key boxes may be obtained from the Fire Prevention Division.
